What Is Shock Loss?

Shock loss is a temporary hair shedding that may occur after a hair transplant procedure, either in the transplanted area or in the existing natural hair. This condition is completely normal and does not indicate permanent hair loss.

When Does Shock Loss Occur?

Shock loss usually appears:
  • Between 2 and 8 weeks after the hair transplant procedure
The timing and intensity may vary from person to person.

Why Does Shock Loss Happen?

During a hair transplant, hair follicles need time to adapt to their new environment. During this adjustment phase:
  • The hair shafts may fall out
  • However, the hair follicles (grafts) remain alive and healthy under the skin
Is Shock Loss Permanent?

No. Shock loss is a temporary condition.
  • The lost hair will grow back
  • The hair follicles are not damaged
When Will the Hair Start Growing Again?

After shock loss, new hair growth typically:
  • Begins around the 3rd month
  • Becomes more noticeable by the 6th month
  • Reaches final results by the 12th month
What Should Be Considered During the Shock Loss Phase?
  • Follow your doctor’s post-operative care instructions carefully
  • Avoid any actions that may irritate the scalp
  • Limit smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Be patient, as this phase is a natural part of the hair transplant process
Important Note:
Shock loss is a normal and expected stage after hair transplantation. It allows the hair follicles to strengthen and produce healthy, permanent hair.
